Uploading Files

Top  Previous  Next

NeatClubs.COM allows you to upload external files into the document library.

This is convenient if you want to store Word, PDF or Excel files on your web-site and make them accessible to others. (You should not use this interface to upload photos, graphics or Flash files - these file types should be uploaded as images into the photo gallery)

PDF is a recommend file format because most viewers will be able to view this type of file. Not all web-site visitors will have the same version of Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel to view this type of file.

To upload a new file:

Ensure you are logged in as a system administrator (or a user with file upload privileges)
Under the "Document Library" side menu, select "Upload a File"
When the file upload dialog appears (shown below), Click BROWSE to select a local file, and once you have selected your file, click "Upload File". Uploading a file may take a few moments.

Once the file has been uploaded, you will see a screen like the one below.  Provide a descriptive name for the document as well as descriptive text. By default, uploaded documents will be placed in a user-category called "Uploaded File".  You may change this to assign your uploaded file to a different category.

Uploaded files and documents can also be placed in sub-categories, but in most cases these will not be used. Sub-categories are useful for creating searchable views of your document library - an example is shown here.

Setting "Show in Summary View" to "Yes" means that this file will be visible in the "simple view" of the document listing as long as the viewing user has permission to see the document or file.

If "Featured Documents" are enabled on the side panel, setting the "Show as a Featured Document" setting to "Yes" will result in the uploaded document appearing in the Featured Documents panel.

You should inspect the permissions area and select the member types that you would like to have access to the document. The "PUBLIC" user-type applies to people not logged into the web-site.  If you make the document visible to the "PUBLIC", any visitor to your web-site will see the uploaded file.

Once you have uploaded a file, you can make this file available to your web-site visitors in a number of different ways:

a) Create a link from a Menu Item to point to this document (You may also setup the menu to automatically generate a sub-menu for all documents that appear in a particular category)

b) You can create a link to the uploaded file from any web-page or event description by highlighting text in the editor and clicking the "Link" icon in the editor to link to the item in the Document Library
