Add a Calendar Posting

Top  Previous  Next

Administrators (or other users with permission to post and edit calendar entries) can add new calendar entries quickly by clicking the add symbol next to the date in the calendar.

This will bring up the Post a Calendar Entry screen.

You will be prompted for the event name or text for the calendar entry, and an optional short synopsis for the activity along with other details.

You can also specify from one of a number of pre-set calendar background colors that allows you to logically “group” similar types of calendar entries logically. (For example, practices may always be one color, competitions another color and so on).

This is a simplified interface that populates the event database with attributes needed for the simplest type of event called an “Information Event”.  The event management facilities in NeatClubs are quite rich and while the regular event setup screens in NeatClubs can also be used to create these "information events", this interface is simpler.

In this example a define a speaking event that occurs on a weekly basis for three weeks.

Because we setup “Location” and “Lecturer” in our Calendar Properties , when we enter a new item in the calendar, we can optionally specify values for these two site defined properties.

The default category name is "Unspecified" but any of our system defined event categories can be selected.  This makes it easier for calendar users or people viewing upcoming events to filter the events and examine them by category.

Sophisticated users can create menu items or links that generate particular views automatically by constructing their own URLs.

for example:

http://demo.neatclubs.com/view_upcoming_events.php?ev_event_category=Lectures

would generate a list of only upcoming events that are associated with the “Lectures” category.

If explanatory text about the event is specified in the text editor, calendar items will automatically become “live”.  This means that users will be able to click the link in the calendar to display the text that you’ve associated with the calendar entry below.

This is useful since it allows you to have a short entry in the calendar, but provide much more detail to anyone who is interested. If there is a PDF document or relevance to the event in the calendar you can provide a link to the PDF document using the editors facility to link to documents, photo collections or other events.

Once we click “Save Calendar Entry” the new event will be reflected in the calendar as shown below. Because our example calendar posting recurs, the calendar entry appears three times. Regular web-site visitors of course would not have the option to delete or edit these calendar postings.
