Configuring Event Descriptive Text Properties

When you modify the descriptive properties of the event, you will see a screen similar to the one below.  The boxes with the (+) and (-) symbols can be used to expand and contract configuration screens respectively.

Anytime you make a change to an event property you will need to Save the changes to the database.  Any saved event changes will take effect immediately, however in order for a change in an event definition to become apparent from the perspective of your browser, you may need to log out of the application in order to clear your current web-site session.

Change Description Text

This is the text that describes the event.  You can incorporate elements like images and tables when formatting your descriptive text as well as links to other locations on your own web-site or other web-sites.  See the section of this manual on using the on-line editor for more information.

Other Descriptive Properties

Skip this description - In most cases it is logical when an event is run to show the event description first, and then allow a user to press "Continue" to proceed to register for an account, complete a form, or perform other activities that event definition requires.  For some event types an administrator may wish to bypass the descriptive text and jump straight to a simple custom registration form.  Setting this property to "Yes" will skip the display of the descriptive text.  This feature is used principally for anonymous surveys where pre-amble text usually appears above the data collection form.

Show this as a Featured Event - You can make an event featured or non-featured by setting this value to Yes or No.  Featured events can appear in Side Panel if this option is enabled on your web-site under System Setup / Preferences.

Featured events may also be turned on or off directly from the event listing.

<Location, Lecturer> - These are examples of configurable event properties.  Some organizations will have properties for their events that we have not thought it - You can configure Custom Event and Calendar Attributes under System Setup  / Preferences / Calendar.  Any custom event attributes you have entered will appear here, and when new entries are added to the calendar, users will be invited to supply these descriptive attributes as well.

Event Synopsis - In many contexts it is useful to have a short descriptive name for the event.  A good event synopsis is one or two sentences long and conveys addition information about the event that may not be apparent from the event name.

Event Category - Some organizations will want to put their events into different user defined categories. (eg. Adult Programs, Children's Recreational Programs, Fun Programs etc.).  If you have defined event categories in your web-site setup, the event categories will be reflected here and you will be allowed to associated this event with an existing event category.  By default, events are not associated with any particular event category.  Event categories can be used to view upcoming events where views are restricted to only those events in a single category - they may also be used "auto-group" matching event categories together when configuring menus that link to event registrations.

Optional URL to Mail Header - This option allows you to supply a fully-qualified URL pointing to an optional image that should over-ride the standard graphic e-mail header for this event only.

Keep Text and Form Together - this setting is currently not used and is reserved for future expansion
