Because different organizations will want to see different behaviors for their calendars, there are setup options accessible to the administrator under System Setup / Preferences / Calendar. The screen below shows these setup options.
Show recurring classes in the calendar Later we will see who we can setup class schedules that recur weekly. If we show our recurring class schedules in the calendar with a busy schedule, our calendar can become quite dense so normally we recommend that this be set to “No”. There are other ways to view recurring class schedules that are more appropriate for busy facilities. This option is useful however for smaller facilities that may only run a few classes a week and who want the option to display all of their classes on their calendar. An example of this view is shown below with a fairly sparse schedule:
Show graphical event type indicators on the calendar NeatClubs uses different symbols in different contexts to quickly allow site administrators to see event types at a glance. These symbols are shown below. If this option is set to “Yes”, the system will display an appropriate symbol depending on the type of event that is reflected in the calendar. Note that the “Post a Calendar Entry” (that we’ve been discussing) is always reflected as the “push-pin” style event type known within the system as an “information event”. These are used simply to post items in the calendar where there is no registration or payment requirement.
Show calendar entries with edit, delete, payment and registration icons Setting this parameter to “Yes” will make graphical symbols appear. For example, a graphical dollar sign will appear if payment is required, a registration symbol will appear if on-line registration is available, and edit and delete symbols will appear depending on the users permissions on the system.
Custom Event and Calendar Attributes Sometimes clubs will run events where they will have there own terminology that describes the events, or events will have properties that we have not thought of in advance. For example, if we were accepting registrations for lectures, an auditorium might need to be specified in the event listing or for hockey games it might be useful to have an event property called arena. You can specify up to three additional custom attributes that will apply to all of your events. For example if most of your events are speaking events, you might want to list “Lecturer” as an attribute for all of the events that you run.
These fields will be available as properties for any event or calendar posting that we create. Dynamically generated pages such as our “Upcoming Events” view (that automatically adjusts itself based on the current date and the properties of events in the database) will automatically include these fields in the order that they are entered here.
